New-Member Induction last weekend

David McKelvey

The first of this season’s New-Member Inductions

23/24 New-Member induction was held last weekend and was well attended by a group of our new members.

The induction went through club house use, a kitchen familiarisation, the club access policy, ramp operation, and the use and maintenance of club RIBs. It also covered important safety equipment location and familiarisation.

Remember, this Induction is a mandatory step for those wanting to use club boats, and access and use the club.

We will be running several of these inductions throughout the season, so keep an eye out for the next one if you’re interested in attending, it will be early in the second half of the season.

Use the change rooms...

Newsletter Editor

The clubhouse is not the changing room, or the locker room, or your bedroom floor.

Please take all your bags and sailing gear, and towels and swimmers, and hats and shoes, into the change room. Use the hooks, hang it all up.

If you’d prefer not to leave your bags in the change room, then pack them neatly, and store them on the shelves to the side of the club.

The upstairs club house floor is not to be covered in sailing gear and bags.

You know who we’re talking to… ;)

Please be considerate of other members and keep the club house tidy.

Thanks.

Club Championship Round 1

Newsletter Editor

The first races of the season, and Races 1 and 2 of the Club championship, were run on Sunday in shifty, ENE conditions. With the wind swinging 180 degrees just before the start, the RO of the day, Geoff Golovsky, was seen scratching his head.

Race 1 saw Shake a Leg, steered by Emma Badger, sail a great race, picking the shifts early to establish a strong lead. She held on for the rest of the race and finished with a gap of over 2 minutes to the next boat. Infinity, skippered by Ed Story, came in 2nd, sailing a strong race. Back In Action, Sol Golovsky, finished in 3rd and Chicken Dinner, with Lachlan Keyte at the helm, in 4th.

Race 2 started in better breeze with a gentle, but building NE wind. Emma Badger again won the start and sailed consistently up the first work, picking the pressure, and rounding the top mark 1st. She displayed good boat handling around the course. Sol Golovsky returned to contention in Race 2, and kept the pressure on Emma, finishing only 29s behind. Ed Story came in 3rd, and Lachlan Keyte, despite lots of encouragement from the sidelines, came in 4th.

Club Championship Standings after Heat 1

1 Shake a Leg (Emma Badger) 2 points

2 Infinity (Ed story) and Back In Action (Sol Golovsky) tied on 5 points

4 Chicken Dinner (Lachlan Keyte) 8 points
