Feedback deadline closing soon - Watsons Bay Wharf Development Proposals

Newsletter Editor

A reminder that the deadline for leaving feedback on the Watsons Bay Wharf Proposals is closing soon.

Transport for NSW is seeking community feedback for the redevelopment of the wharf at Watsons Bay. One of the options proposed involves the construction of a second, additional piece of wharf infrastructure out into Watsons Bay.

You can review the proposed options here.

VA12SC believes that the construction of an additional wharf into Watsons Bay is unnecessary and detrimental to the users of this part of the harbour.

You can leave feedback by emailing wharfupgradeprogram@transport.nsw.gov.au or by completing the survey on the proposals here

Let your old gear go sailing again!

Newsletter Editor

Your old sailing gear doesn’t want to sit in a stuffy old closet! It wants to be out on the water, covered in salt spray, wind in it’s…

In the interest of giving used sailing gear another chance to get out on the water, we’ve got a new section on the website where members can post used sailing gear for sale!

It helps new members get into the sport, and stops gear sitting in closets, or worse, going to landfill!

You can donate your old gear, and help give some new sailors a hand getting into the sport.

Or send us a pic of the gear, and let us know how much you want for it, and we’ll put it in the VA12SC marketplace!

Give it another chance to go sailing, you know it wants to!

If you’re new to the sport and need some gear, head there now!

Well done Zac and Ethan!

Newsletter Editor

Our F11 sailors Zac Golofsky and Ethan Rushton competed at the Flying 11 states over the weekend. While day 2 had to be abandoned due to wind conditions, they both performed really well on Day 1, finishing 17th out of 40 boats. Well done Zac and Ethan and good luck for the next round in February!

Free to a good home!

The club has updated 3 of our support RIBs.

The first to arrive, a replacement for “Comet”, is on the water and looking great!

The next two are on their way from the manufacturer, and will be on the water soon.

That means we have some old RIBs we are getting rid of. If any members are interested in taking ownership of our retired RIBs, please email and we can show you the boats and arrange for you to collect.

They are well used, and tired, but they float. They may need some repairs of tubes, or fibreglass work on hull to make them seaworthy, so know what you are getting. They are definitely not BNIB. But the price is right!

First in first served.

Email Adele to get your hands on a great(ish) little inflatable boat. headcoach@va12sc.org.au

Welcome Miles!

David McKelvey

We are really excited to welcome Miles Davey to the VA12SC. Miles is going to be taking over the Head Coach position at the club, assuming Adele’s role at the start of the new year.

Miles brings a wealth of coaching and competitive sailing experience to the club.

He started sailing at Lane Cove in Sabots as a young boy, and competed at VA12SC regularly. Learning the basics, and loving the sport of sailing, he moved into 29ers, where they won 2 National titles. He has also sailed in two youth worlds, finishing in 3rd place in Houston, Texas.

He recently started sailing the Olympic 49er class, coming 13th at the world championships in Oman in 2021, and is aiming to qualify for the Olympics in 2024.

He also sails 18ft skiffs, alongside a large group of ex VA12SC sailors.

So make sure you say hi when you see him at the club, and welcome him to the 12 footers!
